Privacy & Security
Cookies
A Cookie is a small text file, created by nTrees.co.uk, that is stored on your computer. We do not store any of your personal data in cookies, and no other sites will be able to read the data we do store there.
- Your browser must be set to accept session cookies (temporary first party cookies) from both nTrees.co.uk and sslrelay.com in order for this site to work properly.
We use a Temporary First Party Cookie, or Session Cookie, to recognise you when you move between the pages of our site. The session cookie is deleted when you close your browser.
Joining nTrees
To safeguard your data, we require that you Join nTrees by providing your e-mail address.
We send you an Activation e-mail with a unique code. Your response to that e-mail demonstrates that we have your address stored correctly, so we know that any information we send to it regarding your account will be received by you.
Your Sign In enables us to link all the information that relates to you, so you can manage all of your online entries.
Data Protection
To ensure that nobody else can obtain your personal information without your consent, we validate your e-mail address via the Joining process above before collecting your personal details. The data you provide is stored in our secure, password-protected database on a separate server to the web pages. The database server cannot be accessed directly from the internet.
The personal data you provide will be used by ntrees.co.uk and event organisers for the purpose of processing and publishing entries and results. Your details will not be used for third-party marketing or advertising without your explicit consent. For more details, see our Data Protection Act Notification with the Information Commissioner. Search the Data Protection Register: our registration number is shown at the bottom of the page.
Password
You must not disclose your nTrees.co.uk password to anyone. If you are concerned that somebody may have obtained your password, please get it reset.
Please note that nTrees.co.uk only stores a unique 'fingerprint' of your password in our database, not the password itself. This means that we cannot remind you of your password, we can only change it. This also means that it is impossible for someone to steal your password from us.
Secure Connections (SSL)
We use secure internet connections to transfer your personal and financial data between our server and your computer. This prevents eavesdroppers from being able to obtain the information. These are also referred to as SSL, or Secure Socket Layer, connections
Look for the padlock symbol in your browser to indicate that you are using a secure connection when sending personal data.
Secure Online Payments
We have teamed up with EMIT UK to use the HSBC Secure ePayments system for collecting funds online.
- Your transactions with nTrees.co.uk will appear on your card statement as EMITUK (if via HSBC) or NTREES (if via PayPal).
- Your browser must support 128 bit encryption to make online payments via HSBC. This is a requirement of the HSBC security system.
HSBC offer leading-edge security for online transactions, using Address Verification, Verified by Visa (3-D Secure) and MasterCard SecureCode (UCAF) technologies.
When you are ready to make a payment, you will be redirected to the HSBC Secure ePayment server. HSBC will collect your card details directly, so they are unknown to both nTrees.co.uk and the event organiser. We then get an encrypted message from HSBC to confirm that your transaction has been successful, at which point your entry is finalised.
